Questions and Answers on the new Blue Box System implemented by Malahide Township.

1.         What day does my garbage and Blue Box get picked up?

The Routes have not changed.  Everyone except prior South Dorchester will put out their garbage and recyclables on the same day they do now.  The garbage will be put out weekly and the Blue Box bi-weekly.  The first week for recyclables will be the week of June 4th, then every other week after that

Prior South Dorchester residents will have their garbage picked up on the same day that they
had  in the past.  South Dorchester will have their Blue Boxes picked up bi-weekly on Wed-

-- starting Wednesday, June 6th, 2001.

  2.         Can I still put my recyclables in clear bags?

No, you must use the blue box.  Recyclables must be in an acceptable form (eg. Bundled, rinsed, labels removed, etc.  - see reverse of this form for instructions) Recyclables will be picked up bi-weekly.

  3.         What should I do with the supply of clear bags I have?

You can use your clear or dark bags for your garbage which will be picked up weekly.

  4.         How much is my Blue Box?

The Township of Malahide is supplying you with a Blue Box.  This Blue Box remains the property of the Township and must be left with the residence when you move.

  5.         Will you still have Unsuitable Waste Pick-ups?

No, there is no need for Unsuitable Waste Pick-ups because the garbage that is being picked up weekly is going to landfill as opposed to a composting site.  All future unsuitable waste pick-ups scheduled have now been cancelled.  All former Unsuitable waste can be put out weekly with your garbage.

  6.         Who will be picking up our garbage and Blue Box?

Your service provider will still be Antonissen Trucking (773-8981).

  7.         What about my large items - household furniture, appliances and mattresses?

We will continue to have disposal of large household items at Mr. Antonissen’s property, at 48828 Sparta Line, every Wednesday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and every Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon (you must call Antonissen’s before you bring any articles 773-8981) OR at Putnam’s Auto Centre, 10609 Imperial Road, during regular business hours.  There is a small charge per item.  No household garbage will be accepted at these sites.

8.         What about my Hazardous Waste (chemicals, paint and empty paint cans, batteries, etc.)

The Township will continue to provide a Hazardous Waste Depot each year in the fall.  Particulars of this date are not yet available for 2001.  Please watch the Aylmer Express, call the Township Office (773-5344).

  9.         When should I have my Garbage and Blue Box out at the road?

Please ensure your garbage and Blue Box is out at the road by 6:30 a.m.

  10.       The truck just went past my place and only took the recyclables.  What do I do with my garbage?

The garbage truck and the recycling truck are two different trucks.   There will be a time lapse between the pick up of your Blue Box and your garbage.

Your cardboard must be flattened and bundled in a 18" x 18" x 18" size.

Styrofoam isn’t recyclable.  See attached chart for the only items you can put in your Blue Box.  Styrofoam can go in your garbage.

Your glass has to be rinsed, label free and lid removed.

  13.       Can I continue to compost myself?
