Corporation of the Township of Malahide

Malahide Township Council met on the above date with all members present except for Mayor van Kasteren who was absent due to vacation.

Staff Sgt. John Stephens and Public Relations Officer Dennis Harwood were present with  to up-date Council on the status of policing in Malahide Township.

 

A petition was received from Joanne Teather regarding the traffic on Ron McNeil Line and the need for “Children at Play” signs in the area.  The following Resolution was passed by Council:

THAT Malahide Township Council authorizes the Fire Chief to apply for JEPP Funding (Joint Emergency Preparedness Program) in the amount of $65,000.00

THAT Malahide Township Council accepts the cost estimate of Trow Consulting Engineers Ltd. to complete the groundwater quality and hydrogeological assessment for the Village of Springfield in the amount of $3,900.00

THAT Malahide Township Council has no objection to Mr. Weir filling in as acting Drainage Superintendent for South West Oxford Township on a temporary basis subject to his availability. 

 

THAT if overtime occurs as a result of Mr. Weir acting on behalf of South West Oxford the municipality will be billed at the overtime rate including all benefits and mileage.

A Resolution from the Township of Stephen with respect to water was noted.  The following Resolution was passed:

THAT Malahide Township Council support the Resolution of the Township of Stephen requesting the Province of Ontario not to sell the Ontario Clean Water Agency or any other Ontario Water Resource to the private sector.

 

THAT a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to the Premier of Ontario, Minister of Environment, Minister of Municipal Affairs, MPP Steve Peters, AMO and the Township of Stephen.

            - Satisfactory completion of Zoning Amendment

Maria Smit and Colleen DeVos from the Springfield Public Library were in attendance to update Council on the Springfield Library and the Elgin County Library System.

THAT Malahide Township Council supports the development of a Joint Medical Facility to serve the residents of East Elgin and agree to a proposed cost sharing with the committed municipal partners and a joint board to oversee the project.

 

THAT subject to cost sharing, Malahide Township Council authorizes expenditures of up to $675,000.00 (40% - 45% of 1.0 - 1.5 Million).

THAT Staff be directed to prepare an application for the OSTAR Infrastructure program, under Option 2, public Health and Safety, Transportation structures as follows:

OPTION 1:

 

THAT the replacement of the existing deficient structure on Dorchester Road at an estimated total cost of $450,000.00 be deemed as the Township of Malahide’s highest public health and safety priority (subject to the completion of land purchase agreement by October 6, 2000).

 

OPTION 2:

THAT the replacement of the existing deficient structure on Crossley Hunter Road at an estimated total cost of $ 350,000.00 be deemed as the Township of Malahide’s highest public health and safety priority.
