Imperial Tobacco Canada Limited – Aylmer Complex
Imperial
Tobacco covers approximately 69 acres of land, of which, 32 acres are under
roof. The Imperial complex is
comprised of four plants: a Green Leaf Threshing Plant, a Tobacco Reconstitution
Plant, a Primary Plant and a Dry Ice Expanded Tobacco Plant. Also included in the complex are eight warehouses with a
storage capacity of 140 million pounds of tobacco.
An important function at Imperial in Aylmer is the purchasing of leaf
tobacco for Imperial Tobacco’s domestic use as well as for export customers.
The main tobacco purchased is flue-cured, with smaller quantities of Dark
Air-Cured and Dark Fire-Cured tobaccos also handled.
Imperial Tobacco is one of Canada's leading exporters of tobacco,
shipping tobacco to over 30 different countries.
Shipments to export customers as well as to our manufacturing plants, are
on a continuous, year-round basis.
The majority of people employed by Imperial Tobacco live in Aylmer or the
surrounding area. Through the
years, the Company and it's employees have enjoyed a good relationship within
the community and are involved in both cultural and social activities through
donations, sponsorships and direct participation.
